Asia Justice and Rights, along with their partners Sisters2Sisters and the Liberation War Museum are hosting a 14-day campaign, to not only commemorate the atrocities suffered by the Rohingya but to highlight the resilience and strength of the Rohingya. Concluding on August 25th, the campaign includes letter writing to Rohingya sisters with words of encouragement.

WHAT DOES JUSTICE MEAN FOR VICTIMS & SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE?

MYANMAR GENOCIDE MEMORIAL EVENT
August 25, 7am EDT Rohingyas and those that stand in solidarity with them, will mark the 4th anniversary of Myanmar’s genocide, in a multilingual online rally. The event will bring together international scholars, activists, legal experts, and others to memorialize and honor the victims of the Myanmar government troops’ violent purge that began on 25th August 2017. Genocide of the Rohingya: Preventing Mass Atrocities Four Years Later

The US Holocaust Memorial Museum is hosting this event to hear Rohingya survivors and experts discuss the deadly risks still facing Rohingya in Burma today, and what can be done to prevent further mass atrocities and dehumanization of this community. The event also includes a virtual tour of the Museum’s latest special exhibition, Burma’s Path to Genocide. It was recorded and is available in English, Rohingya, Burmese, and Arabic. Commemoration and Accountability: Recognizing Genocide and Ethnic Persecution

This ongoing series commemorates the Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day as well as the 8888 Uprising. Women have been fundamental movers and shakers in all of the past and present resistance movements. It is important that their voice, their stories, and their strength are not forgotten.
